Peter Szijjarto is worried ahead of the EU foreign ministers meeting: Dangerous proposals regarding Ukraine and the Middle East

Peter Szijjarto expresses concern prior to the EU foreign ministers meeting and believes that Borell’s proposals regarding Ukraine and the Middle East could be risky.

The agenda of Thursday’s informal meeting of EU foreign ministers includes „fairly dangerous proposals,” warned Hungarian Foreign Minister Peter Szijjarto, cited by MTI.

Before leaving for Brussels to meet with his counterparts, Szijjarto noted that „the head of EU’s foreign policy (Josep Borrell – editor’s note), who fortunately will soon leave his position, behaves unpredictably and makes increasingly risky proposals (…) both regarding Ukraine and the Middle East,” proposals that „clearly entail the risk of escalation.”

According to the ideas of the EU’s high representative for foreign affairs and security policy, several members of the Israeli government should be included on a Union sanctions list, which – according to Szijjarto – „would hinder communication, dialogue, and maintaining contact with an ally, Israel, and on the other hand would send signals that would clearly jeopardize the long-term security and stability of the Middle East.”

„Borrell wants to deliver more weapons to Ukraine and wants to allow the Ukrainian armed forces the option to use Western equipment already sent to this country to launch strikes in territories inside Russia,” the foreign minister said.

He outlined Budapest’s stance on these subjects: „We strongly oppose proposals that we consider dangerous because they involve the risk of escalating the conflict in Ukraine.”

Szijjarto added that Hungary will represent „a peace-friendly position” at the Brussels meeting.
