Jonathan Milan, the Italian cyclist from Lidl-Trek, clinched the first stage of the 2024 Renewi Tour (formerly known as the Benelux Tour) on Wednesday, sprinting across the 163.6 km route from Riems to Bilzen.
Milan clocked in at 3h 41:01, closely followed by Belgian Jasper Philipsen (Alpecin – Deceuninck) and French rider Axel Zingle (Cofidis), both with the same time.
The Italian now leads the general classification, with Philipsen (+4) and Frenchman Axel Huens (TDT – Unibet, +6) right behind.
On Thursday, the second stage will feature an individual time trial in Tessenderlo (15.4 km).
Last year, the title was secured for the third time in his career by Belgian rider Tim Wellens (UAE Team-Emirates).
